I hope you now have your pot of sunflowers sitting on a nice sunny windowsill in a saucer.
Don't over water to start with - maybe a couple of desert spoons of water a day and your little babies should start to pop up between 7 and 10 days.
Now keep an eye on the compost, it may need a little extra water as the plants grow but only keep the compost moist - not wet or the roots will rot.
Once the seedlings are about 10" tall then they are ready to go into the garden.
Hold one hand around the seedlings, turn the pot upside down and tap the base of the pot. Take the compost ball and VERY gently prise apart the roots to separate the plants.
Choose somewhere sunny in a garden bed preferably out of the wind high up as these suckers will grow tall, and dig a hole about 3" deep and 6" wide. Gently place the plant in, refill and water.
Keep an eye on the soil to make sure it doesn't dry out, watering about twice a week.
You will need to tie the plant to something as it gets taller.
We will gather measurements towards the end of the summer, and the plant I took the seeds from last year was about 10' so lets see if you can beat that.
IF YOU DIDN'T GET YOUR SEEDS LAST WEEK OR NEED REPLACEMENTS JUST LET ME KNOW.
Phil
