Big Bang Review

I think we all had a great time in London. I'm only now getting over the sleep deprivation.
Wednesday was a bit of a nightmare, arriving in good time to be told we couldn't set up as there was still machinery working in the hall.... However that was made up for by the Welcome Event Show, with Greg Foot introducing 3 minute demos from lots of the shows during the event, cool smoke rings, burning, or not, balloons and the like.
Thursday was an early start to get the stands organised before the show opened, we seemed to have judges and moderators walking round all day, not just at the designated time. The scouts soon became confident to speak to all the visitor, no matter their age or importance. The show started quite slowly as the first two days were mainly school groups. Between 10am and 3pm you couldn't see any floor though as it was so crowded.
In the evening, the pedal car team, with one substitute were invited to The Crystal http://www.thecrystal.org
for a buffet provided by Siemens and a great presentation by Simon Watt which was outtakes from his show "Inside Natures Giants" on Channel 4.

Friday was another busy day with a few clashes in our programme, we opted to go to the Young Engineers Buffet, with the hope of food and a visit from Prince Andrew. Unfortunately neither materialised and we left hungry. A couple of the scouts did manage to see the only celebrity we'd heard of but they said he appeared to be having a bit of a tantrum.... and our STEM Club stand won a couple of awards and were selected for a face to face visit with the Prince anyway.
The evening awards ceremony was hosted by Greg Foot and Liz Bonnin (Stargazing Live). In between the awards were some good Guinness World Record shows.
Saturday and Sunday were very different consisting mainly of families and youth groups. (Lots of Scouts) and for me was more interesting. Most of our team managed to take in a few of the shows, I went back to see Simon Watts' genetics lecture.
Coming home was a difficult trip, firstly not being able to leave until 30 minutes after the show closed, then being force to either sequence our car into the loading bay, or carry the stuff to the car park, then getting lost and finally coping with two very sick scouts.... Sorry we were extremely late home.

Everybody worked brilliantly and I'm sure learnt loads of new stuff. It was great to see scouts gain confidence and understand the significance of what they had been doing.
