Exhausting! But we all had a great time at the Big Bang, and showed lots of other scout groups what they should be doing! There were huge queues for visitors to get in (which exhibitors could walk past) ...
....and loads of visitors to our stand to learn from what we have done over the last year or so, but we were so busy then that I didn't get any pics of other scouts listening to us! We won a Young Engineers national award in the Club Showcase competition: the National Young Engineers Club Ethos prize which is a great reflection on their enthusiasm and teamwork, and they also said nice things about me and I won the Young Engineers Outstanding Leader prize – that brings in £250 of academic prizes which they decided to use for a club trip (outside school time I hope!)
These are the top national prizes a STEM club can win and we were competing against the best schools in the country - all of them regional winners. Well done BEASTs!
We saw loads of exciting science activities (and quite a few things in the shows are things we’ve done in the club – they must be monitoring our blog!) Met famous people and inspiring people, and hopefully learnt something about the range of fascinating things people do in their careers in science and engineering.
At the end we went round our favourite stalls to pose - kind of our own STEM exhibitor awards to the coolest stands (I hope they appreciated the honour!)
ARM - the home of the RaspberryPi
The Sellafield robot - and his tray of chocolate!
and of course the Bloodhound_SuperSonicCar
The competition organisers asked for teams to wear uniform and to ‘dress to impress’... As we are the Boreatton Engineering And Science Team (BEASTs) you can see how they interpreted that in the photos of them visiting their favourite stands and talking to Prince Andrew! Hmmm.... not sure this was what the organisers meant but we were well known around the show by the w/e!
Thanks Young Engineers!
