Details are just emerging of how a serious threat to Christmas was narrowly averted when a group of Boreatton Scouts saved the (big) day in a last minute mission to free Santa. Father Christmas hadn't been seen since 13 December and the elves (and Phil) were getting (very!) worried. Scouts to the rescue! Those plucky young scouts foiled a kidnap plot by the Explorers to imprison Santa in Llanymynech Cave and take all the presents and chocolate for themselves! In a dramatic night time raid, late on 14 December, the scouts made their way through the cave passages and found Santa trapped in the maze of twisting tunnels. "I didn't know where to turn" said a very relieved FC on his release, "if the scouts hadn't found me in time, I'd never have been able to make the present drop this year".
NORAD confirmed later that Santa got off the ground on time and on schedule with the big delivery mission. "...if it weren't for those pesky scouts we'd have gotten away with it" shouted one of the evil Explorers as they were later apprehended and taken away for a term of hard labour in human hamster balls.
