Heads up

No - I said HEADS UP ...

Just an update on some things that need to be planned ahead...
  • Drum Corps is recruiting - new members welcome TONIGHT 3 February (OK my planning horizon is not very far ahead...) We meet at Baschurch primary School, next to the Corbet, 7:00pm-8:00pm

  • Bike prep for mountain biking at this weeks meeting on Friday 4 Feb - bring the bike you plan to take to llandeglas! Don't bring your posh new bike to the meeting for us to check and then turn up with an unchecked wreck 'cos your mum didn't want you to mess up your new bike by riding it... which has happened in the past!!!

  • It looks like it'll be wet and windy (great! - that means it might be MUDDY!) on Saturday 5 Feb when we go to Llandegla - we need to know numbers for Sat so either bring the form or at least tell us tomorrow - the form is the one Pete posted below and has times places etc on it (the form is the one called, somewhat eccentrically, 'Evening Hike' but it wont be that unless you get lost and then lose your bike...(Oh, he's changed it to make it sensible now... but it was called evening hike until a few mins ago...)). You need a bike with: fat tyres (not a road racer), brakes that work, gears that work, but otherwise it doesn't need to be a full on mountain bike for Llandegla. Let us know if you have transport problems as we may be able to help coordinate.

  • We will be going scuba sinking at Wrexham again soon - we've provisionally booked Thursday 11 March and Thursday 18 March and plan to do it as half troop meetings. To have a go, you need a BSAC consent form which is a useful form (near the bottom). If you cannot make the medical declaration that you do not have asthma, you may still be able to dive, but you will need a medical from an approved BSAC registered diving doctor to certify that your asthma will not put you at risk (you will be breathing cold dry air which can affect some forms of asthma but not all...)
The medical referee will almost certainly be able to clear you for a try dive in a pool, but you do need their approval in order for the Wrexham Seals to comply with the terms of their governing body/insurance etc. In Shropshire, approved diving medical referees are:
    Dr D Lowdon,Prescott Surgery, Baschurch SY4 2DR
    Tel: 01939 260210
Dr P Wilmshurst,Department of Cardiology, Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Mytton Oak, Shrewsbury SY3 8XQ
    Tel: 01743 261108 (s)
Please let me know that you are coming and your preferred date asap so I can split the troop appropriately into two half troops.

  • We hope to do a canoe expedition for our spring camp during the Easter break or thereabouts - to get prices I need a rough head count so please let me know if you want to come - bring the form below... I don't know costs yet but we need to hire leaders and canoes etc, but food should be cheap as some scouts have told me they'll bring their rods and catch it! (it's OK there will be back up food) I'm guessing it will work out at about £50?

  • Finally, we are invited back to Giat to join in with the Baschurch-Giat 30th anniversary bash - it should be great and they're planning to do lots of Festive stuff as its their big anniversay! We plan to go for the week of 14-21 August. We managed to keep costs down to £150 last time and that is our target price this year - we won't have quite such a big donation from the twinning group this year as the LJC gave all their money to our hut instead of the twinning group, but we will be able to do some fundraising (I know how to do it now having seen the Jamboree prep!), but I need to get numbers planned soon as it is overseas and to get all the good transport deals etc - tick on the form!

  • Finallyfinally - please pay subs! (£35 as usual for the term - bargain!)

OK I get the picture. The form now says Mountain Biking, happy. Maybe I spent too long in Dublin!
