Talking (or rather singing) of leaving - I was not impressed by scouts ignoring the hike briefing to stay behind the Peter at the front and for us to do a head count check at the road crossing. This is dangerous and means we are not certain that you are not in trouble (maybe having missed the path and fallen somewhere) I know you know the route and its a safe one, but behaving safely on these troop hikes allows us to develop confidence (or not!) that you are safe to take on more adventurous hikes and expeditions. Some scouts are clearly not yet to be trusted to follow safety briefings and be allowed more independence - parents, ask your scout if they were in the group of four boys that'yomped it' and got back to the hut at about the time we were making the decision whether to search the path behind for them....
It was perfect night hiking weather - clear and starry with no moon to give the game away, so I indulged my enthusiasm for photography in the dark... here's some pics
