Carlswark Cavern

Thanks Idris for taking us out again - the three scouts that did the caving option on the SSGMG w/e to the Brecons got to complete their fourth trip and earn their cavers badge! Hope you like the picture record below...
We had to enter the cave down a 12m or so ladder rig and then crawled/waded/slithered along the top level of this cave, past all the oysters in the roof and lots of mined out stalactite stumps, to the Gin Exit for lunch (of Mars bars of course) in the open. For the way back, Idris let the scouts scamble around and explore/lead us out which was good fun. When we were getting near the exit, I saw Idris was just waiting rather than following the scouts. Ha! - Silly scouts I thought, they've taken a wrong route, they should've looked where they were going on the way... true enough, they ran into a dead end - "It's this way" I said, feeling smug, "No that's where we've just come from!" Idris pointed out ... ho hum, I guess I wasn't looking very carefully either... "It's that way!" said Idris, and off we went until the scouts all bumped into each other and got stuck - then we went back and came out of the other side tunnel that we all missed first time around!

Good muddy fun - I'm looking forward to coming back to Derbyshire caves next autumn for the SSGMG w/e, meanwhile, we will introduce the rest of the troop to caving at Llanymynech this term...
