The shape of things to come

The programme!

PROVISIONAL PROGRAMME SUMMER 2007

At last – its daylight for our meetings and we can run around again. Here’s the first go at the programme - it’s still to be confirmed for a number of the evenings so as usual, the programme is quite speculative (flexible sounds better) at present and this is my best shot so far… (subject to being completely different later on… – as last term, we will keep you updated!) Whilst the website idea did not really work, maybe it was useful to one or two of you so I’ll pop this on soon (promise) - its changed to this site! boreattonscouts.blogspot.com

Thanks to those who came on the parade last w/e. It was a good day and good practise for when we ‘Put the band back together’. First band meeting is scheduled for 6:45 on 17/5/07 at Baschurch Primary School field.

27/04/07 Welcome back and welcome to new scouts. We will judge and test (to destruction?) The Royal Society Junior Science Book of the Year 2007 shortlist – expect rockets, jet engines, avalanches, open heart surgery, and electrical stuff. The Chronicle are coming to do a photo shoot at my house on Saturday at 3:00 so we will be famous too!

04/05/07 Zipppp – over the water so that the cubs make the metaphorical crossing of the river of experience separating cub-dom from full blown scout-ness in a more concrete (and wet) way. We need to meet a bit earlier so its meet, ready to start (i.e. no later than!) at 7:45 at PGL reception, finish a bit early, I guess, at the hut as usual.

11/05/07 Going up night – a formal welcome to Alex and Chloe, the assault course – to make it more of a challenge it will be a bit dark and you have to carry gun carriages like the Royal Artillery (sort of – OK not actual gun carriages, but you get the idea…)

18/05/07 Wide Games – I’ve never really got the hang of wide games (never having been a real scout) so now is my chance to catch up… Colin, our DC, has agreed to come and help us play!

25/05/07 Rocketry – you have joined the BMFA and are affiliated to the UKRA (google them – you are members now) so we can build and fly really good rockets – lots of noise, smoke, explosives and they go really high. I have a mini-altimeter so we will see just how high. A range safety officer from the Midland Rocketry Association will brief us and help us construct our rockets.

01/06/07 HALF TERM – no scouts but I’m trying to organise a caving trip one day during the half term – will keep you posted

09/06/07 Saturday – Karting with Kubs (Did Rick stand down from the cub F1 kart team when Schumi went? or will we have to change the rules?)

15/06/07 Raft building – because it’s the middle of June – when I was at college we used to go punt jousting like in ‘A Knights Tale’ - it’ll be something like that…

22/06/07 Second rocket launch day – we need to launch and recover a payload or deploy parachutes or hit the target this time to earn the astronautics badge.

29/06/07 – 01/07/07 District Camp at Oswestry with the rest of the Group and the District – There’s loads of activities and scouts so it should be fun. We’ve lost a load of tents (?!?) so we may be bivouacing (ulp!).

06/07/07 spare evening to allow us to fit other activities in (OK I just haven’t planned this far ahead!)

13/07/07 Venue to be agreed – we’ll go Geocaching – its fun and easy and we will find TREASURE! – bring your GPS if you have one or else your map reading skills (if you have one!). You don’t need a GPS but you’ll struggle if you can’t read a map either!

21/07/07 Saturday - End of term Fun raising Garden Party at my house – family and siblings welcome…

I’ve a couple of other ideas to discuss with PLs and if you have any questions/suggestions (or if parents just want to join in) then contact me on 01939 291352 or on the mobile during troop meetings 07976 633524
