Wombling in Wales

Just back from a great w/e in Wales with SSGMG - you should all come along on these activities! Look below and see what we did!

Anyway, just a reminder to everyone - next meeting is the ceremonial welcoming of the new scouts coming up from cubs. The traditional ceremony involves the cubs crossing the metaphorical river of experience from cubdom to full scoutyness - I think it often involves jumping over ropes to applause from the troop, but as we have a real river and you all learned knots from Ian last Friday, we will use that and you can cross the river on your own bridge! It involves more mud which is somehow more appealing than applause don't you think?

As it will be cold and dark we will probably cook some sossies too, but come prepared to fall in the river as we often do. If you want to reduce the possibilities of getting cold and muddy, read this to remind yourself - http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/facts/pdfs/fs315080.pdf

In Wales we went gorge walking, waterfall jumping and we all explored Porth yr Ogof caves. Then on the next day we split between more serious caving in Ogof Ffynnon Ddu and a hike over the top...

Here's the sign for Porth yr Ogof with a map of the cave so you can show everyone where you went (if you have any underground navigation skills!)

And here's me and Biz waiting for the scouts to abseil in! (just like the SAS, only wearing one welly)

Walking up the Gorge...

and jumping!

"Underground...

(mind the chasm!)

...Over ground...

...Wombling free..."

A great hike but I won't feel quite the same on the mountain tops knowing how much emptyness there is below!

Thanks to Chris, Richard and Idris for organising a great w/e for us!
